The HABITS
Developing HABITS that help you build your relationship with God is
not always easy.  Here are some practical suggestions on how to
develop each HABIT  (Note: A new habit will be added each week of
the series):
Hang Time With God
1.        When you talk to yourself, talk to God instead

2.        When you do sit down to pray and your mind starts to
wonder, don’t resist that, it is obviously something that is on
your heart. Go with it, talk to God about it.

3.        In addition to random conversations, its good to have a set
time that you can get serious. – so pick a time

4.        Pick a place

5.        Be consistent – do it daily and even when you don’t feel like
   it

6.        Get alone (talk out loud)

7.        Sit in silence

8.        Read Scripture (read a chapter of Proverbs or Psalms to
   get you started)

9.        Sing

10.      Use a prayer journal  (You can pick one up from the snack
   shop)

11.      Pray for yourself (it is good to pray for others, keep
praying for other people. But don’t let that be the only
thing you pray for) – John 17
Accountability
Spiritual accountability means having somebody who will:
 1. Pull you from sin
 2. Get in your face when they need to
 3. Hold you up in prayer
 4. Keep you on the path toward godliness
 5. Stop you from stumbling
 6. Gently correct you when you've done something wrong
 7. Open your eyes to a sin that you may not see
 8. Lead you to Christ

A MENTOR is a great way to develop this habit. This week's challenge
is to:
 1. Identify a mentor
 2. Ask them to meet with you 2x per month (or once a week if
      both of you have time)
 3. Give them permission to hold you accountable

Some tips for choosing a mentor:
 1. They must be a Christian
 2. They should be of the same gender as you
 3. They should be at least three years older than you
 4. They should have been a Christian at least as long as you
      have
 5. They should be someone you respect and trust

There are several ways to take in God’s Word. Here are five ways.
Use these as a way to add some variety to your devotions.

Reading
Choose a book of the Bible
          1.        For wisdom, to learn to worship and pray:
Proverbs  or the Psalms are great places to begin.
          2.        For character development through stories: Joshua,
1 & 2 Samuel, or Acts are great places for this one.
          3.        Any of the four Gospels if you want to get to know
                     Christ better
          4.        For doctrine and teaching on Christian living: Any of
                     the New Testament letters
          5.        Or simply read the Bible from beginning to end

  Read a chapter a day

Studying
Choose a short passage, short book, or a topic

Get a study Bible and look up all the cross references and the
   comments at the bottom

Follow the format given on the handouts and write down what
   you discover

Memorizing
Pick one chapter or short book

Memorize one verse per day (repeating the previous days verse)

Hearing
Find a radio program that teaches God’s Word

Come and be attentive to Power Connection, Sunday School,
   and church

Take notes whenever some one is teaching God's Word.

Meditating
Pick one chapter (Psalms or Proverbs is a great one)

Read it one verse at a time and ask
What does this reveal about God?
What does it reveal about me?
Is there a promise to claim in this verse?
Is there something from this verse I can apply to my life?
What areas of my life has this verse been displayed in my
            life?

Move on to the next verse only when you have sufficiently

Involvement in the Church Body
There are four primary ways of making sure you are involved in the
Body:
           1.  Spur one another on. (entice your friends to do good)
           2.  Show up regularly (make it a priority)
           3.  Encourage one another
           4. Serve (Look for ways to help out and use your gifts)

Your job at Power Connection is to help somebody else grow in their
relationship with Christ.

Each week, come with an answer to this question:

"What is one thing I can do this week to help somebody else grow in
their relationship with Christ?"
